Við Lónið Guesthouse
Við Lónið – guesthouse, is located in Seydisfjordur’s historic heart, overlooking the picturesque mountains, the amazing rainbow street, the old houses and the unique lagoon. The house sits on the lagoon bank with shops, restaurants and the beautiful Blue church, only a few steps away.
The house was built in 1907 by Tryggvi Gudmundsson. It´s one of the beautiful ready-made kit form houses, imported from Norway in the early 19th century. In the statuesque house, Tryggvi lived with his family and ran a little shop in a corner on the first floor. His daughter, Nina Tryggvadottir was born in the house and she became one of Iceland’s most renowned artists.
The house is a landmark in Seyðisfjörður’s shopping and service history. It´s taken on many different roles, i.e. clothing and convenience store, art studio, home decor shop, café and it was the first diner in town to sell burgers and fries.
The second floor mostly served as home for the owners but at one time it was renovated for offices. With all these functional changes, the original façade, inner structure and windows were not preserved.
Time for new beginnings!
We decided to start our own family business, rolled up our sleeves, on a mission to restore the house to the original early 19th century look with some improvements for our guests and hopefully reclaim the title as one of Seydisfjordur’s most beautiful historic house After long winter and a lot of hard work we welcomed our first guests in July 2016.
We hope you enjoy your stay with us!

Such a perfect stay at this little renovated guesthouse. Check in was very easy, and the house has such character to it. A weird thing to comment – but the room smelt absolutely amazing. It’s in the perfect location, close to everything in the town. Great view, comfortable, and cosy. Only down point is that you can hear very clearly the other people in the hall/rooms next to you, but I was lucky and they were very respectful and quiet. Loved it, definitely recommend.
A perfect place!
Vid Lonid Guesthouse is in a lovely small town and in a great location. The guesthouse is perfect for couples who seek a romantic place. Very nice anc clean room, with an amazing view from the balcony.
Fantastic location and quality
We stayed here for one night. I would have liked one more night to experience the area more. This place was a perfect location near the bay. The hostess was a gem. She explained that there was a festival this week that could become very noisy, so she gave us earplugs to use while sleeping. It was necessary, but very appreciated. I would definitely stay here again.

Most places are open until 10 pm and even longer for drinks.
If you are visiting during winter you can enjoy great pizzas at Skaftfell Bistro (go before 9 pm).
If you want to start the day with a great breakfast please contact Nordic Restaurant (Hotel Aldan) or pick out some tasty pastry at Kjörbúðin (our supermarket, at the end of the rainbow).
